As part of our public diplomacy EU-grant 'Getting to know Europe', Dr. Juan Rocha, European expert on environmental Ecological degradation and resilience, will meet with the Miami-Dade community at large on April 5, 2019. Dr. Rocha will make a presentation titled “Ecological degradation and resilience: the role of interconnected ecological regimes/regime shifts”.

ImageDr. Juan Rocha is a researcher at the Stockholm Resilience Center, a world-leading science center for addressing the complex challenges facing humanity, studying how regime shifts can be interconnected. He holds a PhD in Sustainability Science and his research aims to understanding critical transitions: from regime shifts in ecological systems to collective action in society. Currently he is focusing on the idea of cascading effects or teleconnections, this is how a critical transition in an ecosystem in the world can affect the likelihood of another ecosystem tipping over. He is also looking for empirical signatures of cascading effects on trade networks. Juan is committed to the broad communication of scientific knowledge to the non-scientific audience by developing  online tools such as the Regime Shifts Database.
