The Miami-Florida European Union Center of Excellence, FIU-UM, attended the three-day EU Centres World Meeting - Networking Conference - European Commission - Brussels - Belgium from April 13 to 15, 2008. 21 EU Centres in universities accross the United States, Canada, Australia, South Korea and Singapore met at the world meeting. The EU Centres promote greater understanding of the EU and relations between the EU and the partner country through teaching programmes and scholarly research. So far, they have created over 260 new EU certificates and courses, generated over 1,700 research publications, and enabled over 40,000 graduates to build up their knowledge of the EU. In addition, Centres reach out beyond the academic world to their local comminities, offering a valuable source of information on the EU for local businesses, civil sociey and government.
