Antisemitism has been a part of the European landscape since the dawn of Christianity. Institutionalization of antisemitism in Europe began in the Middle Ages and has progressed ever since, taking on a variety of forms in different countries and always with the goal of marginalizing, converting or eliminating Jews. Europe has seen the forced segregation of Jewish communities, restrictions on participation in public life, expulsion … and always accompanied by unmitigated denigration and violence. European antisemitism saw its crescendo during the Second World War when six million Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis and their enablers. But the story of antisemitism in Europe does not end there. Join the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs and AJC for a timely conversation that explores the steady resurgence of antisemitism throughout Europe in recent years and its implications for the future of liberal democracy.
