The Miami-Florida Jean Monnet Center of Excellence would like to share this upcoming webinar organized by SIS, the Transatlantic Policy Center, the Antiracist Research and Policy Center, and the European Parliament Liaison Office in Washington, DC. This event is part of the #JMintheUS event series.
US Congressman Raskin and EU Parliament Members Herzberger-Fofana and Walsh will discuss social and racial justice across the Atlantic.
About this Event
The year 2020, with all its major challenges, also dramatically underlined the deeper - if lesser understood - connections between American and European societies. The global pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement have shone a powerful and sobering spotlight on the enduring structural social and racial inequities that confront both sides of the Atlantic. Join us for an important transatlantic conversation with legislators, including US Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and European Parliament Members Maria Walsh (European People’s Party, Ireland) and Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana (European Green Party, Germany) as they discuss how to reconstruct, rethink, and develop transatlantic approaches to social and racial justice in a post-COVID-19 world. Tim Rivera, an affiliate of AU's Transatlantic Policy Center, will moderate the discussion.

She is a firm believer that it is crucial for politicians to be representative of their electorate, with greater representation of people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTI people, and equal gender parity.
Tim Rivera (moderator) is an external affiliate of the Transatlantic Policy Center at American University. He was previously Program Manager at the European Union's Delegation to the US, overseeing a portfolio of public diplomacy and policy outreach initiatives spanning the transatlantic agenda, including trade, security, climate change, the digital economy, gender equality, and educational exchange.
