Prof. Castañeda's research talk explores how issues of gender shape the solidarity networks of transit migrants attempting to reach the EU. Focusing on the cases of Spain & Morocco, she explores how characteristics of migrants headed to the EU – including gender, migration history, country of origin, and religion – shape their experiences and network building, and what on-the-ground forms of cooperation and coordination are emerging between NGOs and EU officials (Spain) and transit countries(Morocco) to negotiate contemporary migration issues.
