Join the Jewish Museum of Florida – FIU and the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs for the opening reception for Passports for Life with special guest His Excellency Marek Magierowski, Ambassador of Poland to the United States. The reception will be followed by a presentation by exhibition creator Magdalena Gawin and researcher Alina Nowobilska.

The exhibition Passports for Life details the remarkable story of how Polish diplomats in Bern cooperated with the Jewish community during WW2 to carry out the so-called “passport campaign” to save Jews from the Holocaust. These diplomats, known as the Ładoś Group, issued false passports and citizenship certificates of Latin American countries to Jews threatened with extermination. These documents allowed their bearers to be interned and then exchanged for German prisoners of war, saving them from the death camps.

Guest Speakers:

  • Magdalena Gawin, Director, Pilecki Institute, Poland
  • Alina Nowobilska, Research Assistant, Pilecki Institute, Poland
