The Schuman Challenge is an academic competition for undergraduate students from U.S. colleges and universities to engage in rigorous dialogue on transatlantic issues.

The next Schuman Challenge will take place from April 10-11, 2025, in Washington D.C., at the office of the EU Delegation.

The theme this year will be:

"Artificial Intelligence as a Key Technology: A Shared Initiative for the EU and U.S. vis-à-vis China."

The tasks:

Students will have to answer this question and:

  • Propose a joint EU-U.S. initiative
  • Make recommendations
  • Use a specific example or case study

The European Union (EU) and the United States (U.S.) share a strategic interest and a mutual responsibility to collaborate on the development, regulation, and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Given the potential of AI technologies, participants are invited to propose a joint EU-U.S. initiative that addresses the opportunities and challenges posed by China's growing influence in AI. Proposals, recommendations, and examples will be delivered in a 10-minute team presentation. The topic brief and reading list for the 2025 competition is available here.

Four of our students have been selected by the Miami-Florida Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, and will participate in the Schuman Challenge Competition on April 10-11, 2025: Marianna Banchero, Alexandria Cerini, Carlos Ricaurte Orozco, and Camila Sandia. We wish them all the best.
