THE ENVIRONMENT IS FOR ALL OF US:
European and Global Politics of Climate Justice

A Conference of the Miami-Florida Jean Monnet Center of Excellence

March 9-10, 2026

Florida International University - Modesto A. Maidique Campus - 11200 SW 8th Street - Miami, FL 33199

  • Monday, March 9 | 2:00 pm-3:15 PM | Keynote Address | FIU MMC | MARC Pavilion
  • Tuesday, March 10 | 9:15 AM–4:15 PM | Conference | FIU MMC | SIPA II – Room 102

The Environment is for all of us: European and global politics of climate justice Within our center’s broader scope on inclusion & diversity, in 2026 we focus on environmental politics and the climate crisis. Are such policies inclusive by virtue of affecting everyone, or do there need to be safeguards to ensure appropriate recognition of intersectional needs of particularly vulnerable and exposed populations such as low-income earners, ethnic or social minorities? It is widely recognized that domestically and internationally underrepresented populations do not receive the same amount of support for climate mitigation measures, even though their carbon footprint tends to be smaller. How can the increasingly likely climate crisis adaptation, rather than mitigation, occur in an environmentally just manner? And how can the EU and its partners design and implement sustainability policies that redress some of these inequalities towards a greener future in the face of competing priorities and interests? These are questions and issues to be addressed in a comparative transatlantic, as well as global perspective.

This two-day conference is free and open to FIU students and the public.
